XI. SPECIAL TESTING
A. Resin Plant
X, Raw Materials
a. Methocel
As discussed during the previously reported meeting with Dow representatives on 6/29/73, a 50-lb sample of F30G (lot #MM120621FG) granular Methocel has been received. The Quality Control evaluation showed a reduced level of ferro magnetic contamination. The count, however, still showed 50+. In addition, the particle size was observed to be very coarse (100 - SOQju), with very few particles in the range of 50 to lOOp. Jim Holten (Dow, Midland) was contacted. While he did not have a lot analysis of the sampled lot, a lot preceeding MM12062irG showed, according to J. Holten, "a high chemical iron level" (43 ppm). Mr. Holten will run a ferro magnetic contamination check on the retain of the sampled lot and will report the findings to us. Furthermore, it was observed that a large amount of undissolved cellulosic fibers are present in the Methocel solution.
b. Hormel Gelatin
In search of an alternate supply of gelatin, an "A" and "B" type gelatin mix from Hormel has been evaluated in the Pilot Plant. For in-plant evaluation, a 300-lb sample of the "A" and "B" mix was received in Burlington. While no specifica tions have been set for this gelatin, the pH values seem to fall in the mid-range of pure "A" and "B" types (5.0 for Hor mel, typical values "A" Rozic 4.3, "B" Colic 5.5). The ferro magnetic contamination was relatively high: 50+, The particle size, however, was observed to be in the range from 25 - 80p with only a few particles larger than 150p.
2. In-Process
a. Oxygen Analysis of Compressors
The evaluation of continuous oxygen analysis in recovery compressors lias resumed with the evaluation of compressor ~(> (plastisol). After full two days of operation, the system functions well. A report will issue at the completion of this evaluation series.
b. Filter Cloth Rvaluation
The cloth on pi filter (Rr7oW42, monofilament) is showing good filtration rates filler eight weeks.

c. VCM Material Balance
The program was continued with efforts to find a column with good separation characteristics; to improve and ma: imizc instrument sensitivity.
Initial analyses on plastisol resins and formulations showed low levels of residual monomer (<10 ppm).
B. Compound Plant
1. Raw Materials
a. Lead Analyses
The Compound Plant support was continued with 15 lead an alyses.
b. Analysis of "Unknown" Inventory
As in previous years, "unknown" inventory from the Compound Plant is analyzed for identification. A total of 15 samples were submitted.
C. Flemington Plant
1. Impact Modification and Processing Aids
A total of 50 samples were analyzed for haze and luminous transmittance
