J an asbestos review study w,til December lS. ~ ."I ..I Mr. Trachtman reported that the Office of Solid W&ste is close to publishing a proposal for regulation pursuant to the Resource Conservation and Recove~y Act. EPA officials have assu=d that asbestos will not be included. States - The state of Montana has inc:oroorated AXA/NA' s.-comment! ~nto ~ts final rule on the spraying ot aabestot. The rule is consistent with EPA's June 1978 &mendment1 to NSHA.PS. Mr. Trachtman reported on a hearing 9c:heduled today in San Francisco. The subject of the hearing is the desireability ot establishing stacewide asbestos screening programs for shipyarc workers. Membership - Atlas Textile Company is resigning as an associ&t member of AIA/NA as cf Oecem.ber Jl, 1978. A!A/NA Resconse Activities The Executive Director reported on an OSHA/NCI Asbestos Info: mation r1an (?hase II). The plan has not been formally appr: It would cost an estimated $700,000 - most of the funding co: from NCI, and continue for about 18 months. A January 1979 target date has been given for approval 'of the plan. The ne meeting of the NCI Asbestos Education Task Force will ba January 12, 1979. A possible Association res?onse to the Phase II OSHA/NCI effort was discussed. As an initial action, it was agreed that advice of counsel should be sought on the issue of OSP.A principal role in this program. (Note: Mr. Artab&ne has be requ~sted to provide comments.) Dougherty reviewed the proposed 1979 AIA/NA budget. The budget was endorsed by the Executive Committee and will be presented to directors at meeting, December 13. Other Committee Reoo:ts Air Monitoring - Or. Rhodes said that inclement:.weather restricted attendance at the committee's November 27th meeting to three; Chase, Heil and himself. The primary topics address ed were preparation of a report on the roWtd-rcbin study and a discussion of the draft proposal for an international reference method. or.
