Dear CCIEP PFAS WG colleagues,
As mentioned in the mail below the public consultation on the restriction proposal on PFAS in firefighting foams has started. To try and facilitate possible information gathering on the questions posed by ECHA, I have listed some of the targeted questions to those of you who might have some information regarding the specific questions.
The following questions might be of interest to the following members:

o Specific information on the costs of treatment (e.g. reverse osmosis) that is effective at removing PFASs
from drinking water.
o Any robust, representative, data that challenges the assumption that fire-water containing PFASs is
currently sent to either on-site or urban waste water treatment plants?

o Any robust, representative, data regarding the cost and available capacity of incinerating the retired
foam stock and the PFAS-containing fire-water?

o The conditions of the proposed restriction include a clause on the labelling of firefighting foam
concentrates containing non-PFAS organofluorine substances (column 2, paragraph 7 of the proposed
restriction, see document in the annex) to enable enforcement without requiring targeted analysis of all
potential PFASs. Would this requirement facilitate enforcement? Could it be improved?
The exact questions can be found in the document in the annex. Don't hesitate to ask for clarification questions if needed. Also please don't hesitate to send these requests to colleagues within your organization who might be able to contribute to the process.
Please also don't hesitate to send in other potentially relevant data like: - Data on emissions and environmental exposure (soil, water, air, ...) - Hazard data or studies not yet referenced in the Annex XV report - Costs of remediation and cleaning of polluted sites - Etc.

Could I ask you that if you can respond with data and information to do so by Friday 29/04 COB? The gathered data and information can then be added to a coordinated BE comment to be submitted to the Public Consultation.

Onderwerp: REACH Restriction on PFAS in fire fighting foams - Public consultation information request
Dear colleagues,
As mentioned during the kick-off meeting the public consultation on the restriction proposal of PFAS in firefighting foams starts today and runs until 23/09/2022. In the annex you can find an info note submitted by ECHA on the proposal, it gives a nice overview of the scope and explains the process.
Important to note is the following: "Information on the hazards of the substance(s) and the costs of the proposal are likely to make the most impact if submitted by month two and exposure/risk, benefits and derogations by month four of the consultation." Therefore I would like to ask the members to indicate if you have info on the hazards, exposure and risks regarding PFAS in FFF, as this information would be valuable early on in the consultation.
We also highly recommend you to have a look at the specific information requests indicated in the document (page 3). Please don't hesitate to inform me and the other colleagues if you believe to have relevant information on these points.
