Keating, Union Carbide Corporation has contracted to purchase a house belonging to John W. Tannehill and Gail Tannehill, situated at 332 North Second Street, King City, California for the purchase price of $78,500.00. The said premises were formerly owned by a then employee of Union Carbide's King City mill, Roy Crowe, who used asbestos obtained from the mill as an insulating material in the attic. The purchase of the house will eliminate possible further human exposure to the asbestos. We have received a preliminary title report which shows that the title to the premises is acceptable for closing. Closing of title will take place upon the deposit of the foregoing purchase price with the escrow agent, subject to the current tenant vacating the premises prior to closing. If this transaction is acceptable to the Metals Division, it would be appropriate to obtain the approval of Mr. F.C. Kroft, Jr. and to draw a check in the amount of $77,800, representing the purchase price plus estimated closing costs of $100 minus a down payment of $800, . payable to "Western Title Insurance Company, as Trustee," Upon receipt of the said check, I will deliver it to the escrow agent.
