APPROVED BY; A.-A. DATE SUBMITTED: 2/17/53 DATE ISSUED; 2/27/53 DUP050069234 *H~53~5 -1- .SIMM*mmm RT-672-D is a 2B Acid-BON/Ca, Sr pigment similar to RT-42B-D, except that the rosin, para soap, and Octanol have been omitted* It is a special for Interchemical \RBH Dispersions) only, laboratory material teas supplied to the customer for the initial sample orders* Additional small orders were filled from semi-works material, and then from a mix of two specially made plant batches* Customer orders have been infrequent and for only small quantities* At the present time Sales believes there will be no further orders for the pigment* from a tinctorial and cost Standpoint, it would not be a practical addition to the "Watchung" line* HT-672-D ia a ,,Watchuag,, red similar to RT-42S-D, except that the rosin, para soap, and Octanol have been omitted. It was set np as a special for Interchemical (RBH Dispersions) at their request for a "Watchung" red containing no agents. The first one pound sample was prepared in the laboratory (NB 1390, Expt. 11). By rubouts it was s dark, ws blue versus RT-428-D. A second one pound sample was subsequently prepared for the customer (KB 1390, Expt. 22). By rubouts, it was s light, vs weak, tr blue versus RT-428-D. This lack of duplieabllity was also evident in the plant trials, and may he attributed to the loss of the stabilising influence of the rosin and para soap* To fill a 30 pound order, one 30 lb* batch (lot 1433) was made in the #10 Building semi-works. Rubout readings were as follows: versus RT-428-D SO 91195 light; s strong, s dull versus 1390-22 s dark; strong, s dull Lot 1435 was dry blended with 5% blanc fixe to approximate the strength of the laboratory sample, 1390-22, and shipped to the customer as lot 1441* When an additional order for 52' lbs. was received, it was decided to sake a full else plant batch as a preliminary move toward possible standardisation* A process was written up and the problem turned over to Quality Control* The process called for the addition of 16% blanc fixe, in place of the 12.6% normally used in RT-428-D, to offset the higher cost due to the lower yield caused by the emission of the treating agents* The first plant batch, lot 37606, tested Considerably lighter in maestone than either RT-428-D or lot 1441* Rubout readinga were; versus RT-A28-D, SD 91195 v light; 111, v dull versus RT-672-D, lot 1441 v light; 106, v dull In order to obtain a better indication of plant performance, another DUP050069235 KB-53-5 *2 batch was made* which was similar to the first# A 1500 lb. mix* lot 697, of the two batches was prepared, from which Interchemical,s order was filled. The mix compared with RT-426-D and lot 1441 as follows: versts HT-42S-D, SD 91195 v light; 110, yellow, dull versts RT-672-D, lot 1441 v light? 104, yellow tfhea further orders failed to materialise, most of lot 697 was consumed in RT-426-D mimes. About 6 lbs, of lot 697 has been retained by the plant as a reference standard. The Chemical Division is retaining 1 lb. of lot 1441 under the serial number 345b, The sample is in the K-number files. The hew York Sales office advises that it is not likely that there will be any more orders for RT-672-D. They do not foresee any continuing demand for this code. Since all of lot 697 has been disposed of, the remainder of lot 1435 (9 lbs.) has been blended with blanc fixe to approximate lot 1441 and retained for possible future nuisance orders from Intorchemical.
