Ashtabula A. Marshall D. J enkins February 13, 1980 Storage of Acetylene and Oxygen Tanks
-W-
I have spoken to G. Lopez In Akron about the storage of the welding tanks. The pertinent material is 1910.252 a iv (a), which states "Oxygen Cylinders shall not be stored near highly combustible material, especially oil and grease, or near reserve stocks of carbide and acetylene or other fuel gas cylinders, or near any other substance likely to cause or accelerate fire; or in an acetylene generator compartment." Part C says the minimum distance must be 20 feet.
Therefore, we can safely store the acetylene, oxygen and non-explosive gases according to the accompanying diagram. No further storage areas need be built. However, the tanks must be segregated as to full and empty in these racks.
