Re: Media request: Budgets and concerns of scientists
Hi Sean, attributable to an EPA spokesperson:
EPA's FY 2018 budget maintains core environmental protections and regulatory obligations while focusing on the Agency's core statutory work. As laid out in the Agency's draft FY 2018-2022 Strategic Plan, the Administrator's goals are designed to transform the way the Agency does business and more efficiently and effectively deliver human health and environmental results.
Over the next four years, the Agency will strengthen alignment of its research to support EPA programs, regions, states, and tribes in accomplishing their top human health and environmental protection priorities for improved air quality, clean and safe water, revitalized land, and chemical safety.
One of EPA's highest priorities must be to create consistency and certainty for the regulated community. The rule of law must also be built on the application of robust science that is conducted to help the Agency meet its mission and support the states in achieving their environmental goals. Research, in conjunction with user friendly applications needed to apply the science to real-world problems, will help move EPA and the states forward in making timely decisions based on sound science.
