AROCLORS - TESTING
Thank you for your memo on the Hunch Teat. I will admit defeat and continue to run It, although, I hope It can be eventually eliminated.
There la one additional test I would like to inaugurate here at Anniaton. It la analyzing each lot of 1242, 1254, and 1260 by vapor chromatography. We obtain varying results on several physical properties from time to time which we cannot correlate to any analytical or production causes. If we could build up a large background of VPC charts, a cause might be traced and thus lead to more uniform and stable Aroclors.
What I'm referring to is that usually when the gravity goes up, the index, dlstlllstion range and flash point will follow suite. However, on many occasions one or two will go up and the others remain constant, or even drop. If we had chromatographic curves of the material in these cases I'm sure we could find the reason when correlated with analytical and production data. These curves might also help explain why Munch test chlorides and HST chlorides do not always follow each other.
Curves and data, of course, would not be passed on to our customers, but retained by us in order to produce a more uniform product.
I believe Dayton has been doing some basic work on the Aroclors in this line. Will you please obtain from them the column packing, lengths, temperatures, and pressures they use so we can start testing down here.
Best regards.
