Plowman This memo contains two subject evaluations which you requested that I investigate and outline regarding the above, namely (l) prepare a program to move the lunch rooms out of the laboratory and reactor buildings and (2) survey the shower facilities to see if they meet OSHA recommendations. The following is for your consideration: I. Lunching Program OSHA Requirements - Lunchrooms state as follows: Lunchrooms General - "Such space shall be physically separate from any location where there is exposure to toxic materials. " Lunchrooms - Location - "No food shall be stored or eaten where there are present a^y toxic materials or substances that may be injurious to health. Jones 15 February L974 Page -2- Lunching Plan Suggested 1. pvc Dept, employees utilize Maint. Shop lunchroom on all shifts. This makes maximum of 42 dayshift in Maint. Shop Lunchroom if all ate at the same time, which is unlikely. 2. PVC Lab employees on day shift Monday-Friday utilize I&E Lunchroom. On S aturday and Sunday utilize Maint. Shop Lunchroom. This makes maximum of 32 people dayshift in IkE Lunchroom if all ate at the same time which is unlikely. Ox all other shifts lab utilize maintenance shop lunchroom. II. Showering Facilities Survey The writer inspected the PVC change room showers. There is one shower room with 4 heads. This is sufficient to handle 40 people per shift per OSHA requirements (1 required per 10 people) which more than meets our PVC Dept, and Lab requirements. Mr. Kerler wrote a work order at the writer's direction to repair all showers, replace missing tile in shower room, install soap dishes and to install a heater in the change room. Mr. Hesler ordered 12 new lockers so that every assigned PVC employee would have his own locker in the event showering becomes necessary. The PVC emergency showers and eye-wash fountains were inspected by Messrs. Kerler and Hesler and were all in good operable condition in the following locations: (1) Reactor Bldg. - 2nd floor - 2 safety showers and 1 eye fountain in good condition (2) Reactor Bldg. - 3rd floor - 1 safety shower and 1 eye fountain ixi.good condition. Comical Cleaning - 1 safety shower and 1 eye wash fountain in (3) good condition. (4) Purification Bldg. - 1 safety shower and 1 eye fountain in good condition. (5) Monomer unloading - 1 safety shower in good condition. No repair work or other work is necessary in the safety showers or eye fountains. AP00035536 Mr. R. E.
