The visit was in response to an anonymous complaint concerning solvent vapor contamination of the trim department assembly; line . area. During the investigation you stated that you were well aware of this problem and had already taken steps to correct it. ^According to your ^statements, the problem began in early September when workers iii the- trim department began to notice 'paint odors" coming from the fresh air ventsplaced directly above the assembly line. Further investigation identified these odors to be vapors'emitted from paint thinners (MEK,MAK) used in another area of the plant. Due to change in wind direction, vapors from the rooftop exhaust stack of the paint department, had entered the rooftop fresh air intake duct for the trim department. To prevent this type of exposure from reoccurring, a twelve foot extension is being added to the exhaust stack of the paint department. The elevation of this stack should prevent cross contamination from reoccurring independent of wind direction.
