COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT MEETING March 25, 1974
Present:
H. D. Shephard G. Fenton A. G. Santlghian R. T. Callahan
W. C. Fletcher
D. J. Anderson
Profax 2000
Mr. Anderson - 6E4 ring made by Profax 2000 process had failed in test at Aliquippa, due to softening on hot molds. It was considered that the failure was due to the attempt to use flexible binders for compressibility. New binders would be looked at, including less thermo-plastic binders, epoxy, and rigid binders with higher fiber content. Group stressed the need for more thorough laboratory testing before further field testing.
Non-Asbestos Tests
Mr. Fletcher - Not getting complete feedback from field. Mr. Fletcher will devise "Page 2" of standard test form, to be completed by Sales. Mr. Shephard will push Sales to complete.
a) Ring Recipe - Tests run on 386, 491, 495, 470, 684. Mr. Santighlan considers EP-5492 is acceptable recipe, but noted cavitation evident in each case in same location, indicating faulty baffling in machine. This must be solved before EP-5492 can become production recipe - Mr. Cinke asked to give priority. All rings were also hard. Mr. Fenton - the overform/press concept still works against us in both hardness and extra thickness, requested again a1 resumption of 470 injection tool test. Group agreed no further HK IV testing until either baffling changed to reduce cavitation, or injection tool tested. Mr. Callahan - conversion to all injection tools would cost us roughly $30,000. Mr. Shephard - reduction in thickness of 10% would pay this off in less than six months.
b) Kaiser Corrugated Boards - These are still in shrinking Profax 10 recipe. Test pallets have been made in EP-5465. Mr. Callahan - corrugated tools allow for shrinkage, but not drier templates.
c) Copperweld 685 - EP-5465 test ran well for two hours, then fora time Increased - lack of blow-back system. Product good, fits jigs well. Report from Sales - no discernible difference from standard boards when tested in mill. Group again requested action on blow-back system fSJC).
d) Proflex Boards - 478 and 459 run in EP-5484. Awaiting report from Sales. e) Further Tests - 669 and 75 in EP-5465, 897 in EP-5492. Also requested test of EP-5492 on #7 machine in Chicago.
Ferrux EP-5499 Mr. Shephard requested 4000# immediately for field test. Ms. Habeeb to
issue quotation sheet.
