Identification of all RED TOP Gauging Plasters containing aggregates (perlite fines) has been changed from "aggregated" to "Quality".
This change was made necessary by some plasterers' resistance to the word "aggregated". This was due to the fact that the plasterers envisioned a heavily aggregated gauging plaster that would be difficult to join and finish, which is not the case.
RED TOP Gauging Plasters - Star, Champion and Local containing aggregates will now be identified on the face of the bag as RED TOP Star "Quality" RED TOP Champion "Quality" Gauging Plaster or as RED TOP Quality Gauging Plaster (Local).
Our recommendations are that when a light weight aggregated basecoat is to receive a gauged lime finish, the gauged lime putty must also be aggregated with either silica sand or perlite fineB. The addition of aggregate to such a finish will minimise cracking and delamination hazards. In fact, an aggregated lime gauging putty provides additional crack and delamlnatlon resistance re gardless of the type aggregate used in the basecoat plaster, and should be promoted with the trades whenever possible.
The directions on the back of the plaster bags will remain the same.
Please alert your dealers to this change. When ordering, specify "Quality" if aggregated gauging plaster is wanted.
