Houghton on fish kill studies with Houghtosafe .120, G20, 520, Pych-anl .312 and Aroelor 1248. Test was run by Microbiological Laboratories for E. P. Houghton. Pydraul lookid very bad. DETAILS: Report i5?>980.31B from above lab dated h/69 shows rydraul 31? having loop! kill on blue gills after four days at a level of '.67 ppm. Arooolor 1248 also a 100 kill after four days at a.light ly higher limits, but lower kill after only two days. Koughtosa: e 1120 had no kill up to 1000 ppm oj' ljf. Houghtosafe 520 and 5P0 showed slight toxicity at very high concentrations, but no where near Pydraul cr Aroclor. Tests were run in several different vays - addition, stirring shaking, agitation with blender, etc. Houghton's cover letter with the report called our product toxic on basis of test and said Pydraul 31? was more toxic then Arcelor 1248 and therefore another component of Pydraul 312 must be the cause since Pydrsul 312 contained 1248. BOP scrap charger from pecor is specified on Houghtosa.?e 1120 by areat Lakes against Pydraul 312 speo of Pecor, Stralghtwell has been ordered to cut cost on mobile equipment by Plant Manager. Units are in open hearth area and if opera tors use Air Packs as indicated by Stralghtwell, Pydraul will operate successfully. Reclamation could also cut oosts since they are periodically dumping charge on each machine due to contamination. Following actions are needed at Great Lakes to obtain businesf: 1. Pague send proposal to Stralghtwell on use of Pydraul 312 in both Askania and mobile equipment. Push for definite trial in Askania. Confirm use of air-packs by operators of mobile equipment. If not used, cdor will prevent Pydraul use. Reclamation should be stressed also. 2. Additional oontaets are neoessary to get in here. Straightwell stated he isn't Interested in helping us on the scrap charger so we must get back to the project engineers, Potivk and Sebastian. The ConCast unit should be reohecked for fluid need through M. Jones, Chief Engineer, and by Randy Graham at ConCast. Contact with Stralghtwell's boss. Main tenance Superintendent, should be. made to get in with a more reliable deoioion maker. Contact with the Supt, Com bustion and Supt. Melt Shop or BOP will be needed to get in Askanlas and BOP scrap charger since they are directly cost responsible. Contact with Supt, Power Plant may lead to Pydraul AC business.
