Mil-I-24241 Insulation Materials, with Special Corrosion and Chloride requirements. The Molded Section reviewed the meeting of 9/19/68 with the rep resentatives of Electric Boat in Groton, Conn. BDIA and Electric Boat had agreed on four suggested changes which Electric Boat passed on to the Navy. The Navy rejected the proposal to extend the leaching tine, accepted the alternate chloride test method end the clarification of the Mercury contamination clause and took under consideration the sug gested change in sample and lot definition. The committee requests that Mr. Barnhart contact Electric Boat for a progress report on the sample and lot questions. 2. Combined Military Specification Mil-I-278l and ML1-I-2819 The proposed combined specification was sast to the Navy in July. Mr. Barnhart was advised that be would have a reply by Sept. 25, 1968. To date, there has been no reply. The Government Committee was re quested to meet with Mr. Puglesie of the Naval Ship Engineering Center ss soon ns possible (probably week of 11/18/68) in an attempt to ini tiate prompt action on this proposed change. Xt was felt that acticn on this matter should get high SIMA priority. 3 Mr. Reviin e^reea to provide Mr. Barnhart with recommended changes in order to up.-graae this Specification. Mr. Barnhart will 1 advise ASTM sub-comittee S-I that be is preparing suggested revi sions. Every attempt will be aade to improve this Specification and do it in os short a tine as possible. A discussion was held on the philosophy of HBIA attempting to refer all federal and military specifications to an ASTM Specifica tion. It was generally agreed that, when NIMA felt the ASTM Speci fication in question was adequate, efforts would be made to refer the federal and military back to it. When the ASTM Specification was felt to be inadequate, efforts would be made to improve subject ASTM Specification before referring federal and military to it. 4. ether Business a) It was suggested that Government Committee members be advised of T&R committee meeting dates and be sent a copy of the agenda. b) Mr. Tower agreed to obtain a copy of the amended version of Sec tion 75 of the MARAD Specification. Be will forward said copy to Mi*. Barnhart for distribution to the committee-members. c) Each member was requested in June 1966 to forward 15 copies of his company's current litereture to Mr. Barnhart fer distribu tion to T1R members. This request was repeated as several mem bers had not forwarded their literature. d) The Molded Section requested the status of their suggestions to the Board of Directors for full time secretarial help and expand ing the responsibilities of the committee chairmen in oracr to relieve the Executive Secretary of some of his increased wor& load. FEDERAL SPECIFICATION HH-I-5^5 The responsibility of this Specification was relegated to the Duct Systen Committee. ASTM SPECIFICATION C-6l2 The revised specification, which dropped the alkalinity requirement, was sent to ASTM C-l6 Subcommittee S-I for letter ballot. FEDERAL SPECIFICATION HK-I-558 The.following changes were agreed to: Par.1.2.1 Delete "Semi-rigid" and "Rigid" - under Form A. Table J form A - dimensions shown in length and width enliven* ere reversed. 2- Taole I Change Fora D, Type IV, length to 2 feet. Table I - "Sizes" - Should be amended in the thickness column for Fora D (pipe insulation) to ado the word "nominal"**. Note h shall read "See paragraph 3.5.1.1" Paragraph 35.1.1 should be amended to read "......... Thicknesses available for various pipe and tuoe sizes are nominal. Actual thicknesses will vary in acccrdance with manufacturers' standard sizes. Greater thicknesses axe available by combining two or more layers of insulation......... ". Table II Change Class U Compressive Load from 700 pounds/ sq.ft, to 75 pounds/sq.ft. Table IV Class 7 * Change to "Up to U-l/2 pcf" and delete column entitled "above lt-l/2 pcf." Par. 6.2(J) Change to read: "form C whether metal-mesh covered..." J. M. Barnhart is to write to GSA Incorporating the above changes. TEMPERATURE LIMITS Recommendations as to how the upper temperature limits for mineral fiber products are determined was discussed. It was agreed that each company was to sand to tba H2MA office, prior to December 1, 1968, for circulation to the Committee their individual labera tory test method as well as their criteria for establishing upper tempera ture limits ior their products. -3- A standard method of test to evaluate upper temperature limit is to :e established. THERMAL COffDLCnVTTY CURVES W. Gubar is to send to the NIMA office, prior to December 15, i960, fcr comments by the Committee suggested "K" curves, for adoption as NIMA Standard, that are indicative of the various processes used to produce resilient-flexible blaahets. It Is recommended that manufacturers publish "S" values that are conslscec with current production and that published literature should reflect these values by October, 1969* NEXT MEETING It vos agreed to hold the next Committee Meeting in conjunction vith the Spring ASTM Meeting, in Savannah, Ga.
