It was felt that It would b* well to call on The Qlldden Company la
Clareland at the seme time a visit vaa made to 6herwin-*llliems
Company In an attempt to enlist The Clldden Company's support.
Mr. Peters reported on his visits *Ath earloua mixed paint
manufacturers in recent weeks. Re said that with one or teo excep
tions he had enjoyed a food reception end that e number of mixed
paint companies nnv have ready-mixed pur* ehlt* lead paint In molors
on the market, or are about to place It on tn* market. tie apofee
specifically nf the Phelan-Psuat Paint Manufacturing Company of St*
Louis, who had this paint on the market for about three weeks. Huy
have approximately 250 to 200 dealers. The Hooker Class k Paint
Manufacturing Company in Chicago will have Its paint available almost
i Immediately and are having a sales meeting about It this week. They
have approximately 250 dealers. Petek Bros, of Milwaukee has had a
pure wnlte lead paint on the market for several yeara and has enjoyed
a reasonable amount of success with It. The Minnesota Lead k Oil
Paint Company, although not enthusiastic about the Idea, are marking
time and awaiting developments and, should a demand develop for a pure
white lead paint in ready-mixed form, they will pos-ibly put such a
paint on tha market to aatlafy the demand. Peasormo-tiutcheoo
Company of Cleveland now ham this paint on the market. Gao. 0. ' Yetr.erlll Coapa ly of Philadelphia, has put a pure lead In oil paint
*
on the market for some years but has never pushed It. Tbey have now become enthusiastic, have published a new color card and literature,
Iand are giving 100 par cent cooperation. Sampson Paint 0 Color Com
pany, Inc. of Richmond, la planning to put out a pure white lead
paint In tha very near future.
1
Mr. Peters pointed out that one question that has ooma up In
his discussion eltn most of thasa paint companies 1st
If they era
* successful In developing a market for rvady-mlxed pure white lead paint, wnat will tha white lead manufacturers themselves do? Having
h
done the missionary work, will tn# white lead manufacturers place pure
white lead ready-mixed paint on tha market themselves In competition
with tha mixed paint manufacturera?
A latter sent by the Keystone Varnish Company to Its dealers, was
resd at tha meeting. Tha latter pointed to tha lead content of their
paint and made a virtue of It.
Tha advisability of advertising the price of peste white lead to consumers Inasmuch as pure wnlte lead paint now being placed on tha market in ready mixed form sells for about >1.00 a gallon more, was
discussed. It was brought out that the consumer price on peste white lead was only advertised In the farm papers hut it was felt that this
matter should be given further consideration.
Mr. Peters read sn editorial which Phelan-faust Paint Manufactur ing Coapany had asked hla to try to get placed In various newspapers In Missouri, which Is much stronger In Its advocacy of pure whit# lead than anything tha white lead manufacturers have ever dared to say. It was an indication of the enthusiasa of some mixed paint
' manufacturers for ready-mixed white lead paint.

The status of the consumer booklet on white lead was next reported upon and It was Indicated that the only thing delaying Its printing now eaa the questlTOOf whether ready-wlxed white lead paints should be mentioned In the booklet.
After discussion, it was decided that ready-alxed white
lesd paint should be wentioned as also being available but that
I
no eentlon should be Bade of high lead content ready-nixed paints other than the 109 per cent variety inasmuch as tha paint manu
facturers themselves have requested the esapalgn not to deal
with the subject.

The Queatlon of the type of advertising copy to V
use In the trade papers serving mixed point manufacturer*
*aa discussed.
Yhlle some members felt that theaa madia
had no value to u> and that we could discontinue using tlhaa*
several members felt that they could be used properly very
profitably. They felt that the type of copy should be a
straight felling appeal setting forth the advantages of using
whits lead In ready-mixed paint.
STAL OF APPFOTAL r" SUOGgSTIQll
Labels certifying as to the whits lesd content of points, ss suggested by the Fagle-Plcher Lesd Company, as a cowproalse for the Seal of Approval were discussed. These labels were merely to be of uniform deslrn, certifying the white lead content In per cent, but not bearing the Associ ation's name. representatives of the Fagle-Plcher Lead Coermiy, as well as others at the meeting, felt that It was still premature to consider such a proposal and that It should be held In abeyance for future action. It was pointed out that there would be no vsy of stopping manu
facturers putting smaller amounts of lead than we would care to see In their paints from using a similar label.
aJtlCTCTS Mg rm
The Question of the use of motion picture or slide films In connection with our work was considered end It was decided to hold this matter In abeyance for further discus sion at a later meeting.
Mr. Petrs pointed out that It would be highly desir able to have the representative! of the Lead Industries Associ ation spend more tine In the field, particularly calling on ready-mixed paint manufacturers who might produce pure white lead paint ready for the brush, attending sales meetings and helping those companies who are already producing It. It was felt that this could not be properly handled by represantatlves of Individual member companies.
Meeting adjourned at 8il5 P.M.
