D. > Dear Mr. Millers ,-// Mr. Frazee has told me of the beginning of the work of the Senate Special Committee on Reconstruction and Production, l have received the letter you mention from Senator Oalder, and am enclosing a copy of toy reply to him. I have delayed since yesterday mdsing this reply to your letter because of my sincere desire to give you every possible assitance in connection with your work with the Committee, and I have studied the matter over night, with the hope that I could see some way of releasing Clarkson temporarily, as you request. We have two problems here in Philadelphia , which are equally important from the standpoint of the Federation!}! rtely, to finance the work of the Federation through our member- nip campaign, and to organize and develop: the -effective service of the Federation to the industry. The membership campaigns require much attention, and Clarkson is devotingahimself for the moment largely to this end. It is a work which hardly be left at this time, and under the circumstances, I do not see how it is possible for him to come to Washington, as you suggest. Since the Annual Meeting, he has be, in Philadelphia less than one week. Please be assured that it is my earnest desire that the Federation shall give every possible assistance to the important work which is being done by the Senate Special Sommittee, and I know what a large factor you are and will continue to be in the successful determination of its work.
