Dear Doctor Kehoe: The Committee on Cosmetics of the American Medical Association is interested in the problem of percutaneous absorption of lead salts through the medium of a hair dye. Our attention has recently been called to a hair pomade contain ing 3$ acetate of sugar lead to be applied two (2) to three (3) times a week. Your article "Exposure to Lead" v.3 (Feb.) 1947, has prompted us to contact you. Certain conclusions have been reached as to safe levels of ingestion of lead daily. Could these levels be influenced to any marked degree by the con tinued application of a hair dye or pomade of 3% lead acetate content?
