ATTN: Ms. Beck, Mr.Morris, Ms.Corado and Mr. Parsons,
I have just learned of a healthy young man (age 31), who recently died while using a Methylene Chloridebased paint stripper. He carefully followed the manufacturer's directions, using all the protective respirator equipment and skin protections recommended on the label. He bought the Methylene Chloride off of the shelf at his local Lowes store. This is the same product which I have kept in my home, until learning of the grave consciences with use of this deadly product.
I'm very troubled by reports that the EPA has Indefinitely postponed its ban on Methylene Chloride. (EPAHQ~GPPT~2016~0231~Q001), It is banned for use by the US Military and the European Union since 2013.
Protecting American consumers and workers from dangerous chemicals is at the core of your agency's mission. The longer these rules are delayed, the more workers and consumers will be needlessly exposed to toxic chemicals with serious, well-documented health risks and numerous deaths resulting from your delay.
Action on this toxic chemical is long overdue. I urge the EPA to reconsider its decision to delay the rule making process. You should finalize the proposed ban on Methylene Chloride IMMEDIATELY.
Thank you, Mark Denzer Columbus, Ohio
