The RUBEROID Co. HYDE PARK, VERMONT 05655 Kr. H. J. Holloway - So. Bound Brook For Attention Copy to Mr. I. . Matthews Kirch 10, 1967 Date Reference Subject DHYER BUST COLLECTOR - YEEM3RI Ve hare & rather serious dust contamination problem in connection vith oar ora drying operation. Two Tans pull about it0,000 cfm (20,000 each) thru two cyclones (one for each dryer) and exhaust to atc&sphere. Die two dryers dry a total of 3*600 tons/day ana probably a grin-tram of 5 or 6 taos/day of dust is exhausted to atmosphere; settling around the plant and surrounding area. In 1951* a Vhee.labra.tor No. U5 - Series 5*112 Dust Collector vaa Installed to handle the exhaust froa the fans. Die air to cloth ratio, vith U coopartaaeats operating and cos shaking, vas 3.7 to 1. The unit vas designed, to operate under pressure and vith an automatic by-pass if the temperature in the filter exceeded 270 F, Die unit nrrer operated satisfactorily. The air-cloth ratio vas too high and resulted in ezcesslre back pressure causing drying problems, especially during the winter Booths when drying vas Bare difficult. The unit vas operating a few earners but ty 1956 the dryer thru-put had been increased frca.125 to 135 tans per hr. to the present ISO to 155 tens per hr. which aggravated the problem. Other major problems ware too flat a slope 00 the discharge hoppers and fuses leaking out as the eysteci vas under pressure. Die unit has not been operated since 1956. last year ve contacted Vheelabrator for advice and quotations to put the unit back in operation the exhaust free one fan and purchasing an additional unit for the other fan. Oar thoughts were to get the Old unit in operation handling the exhaust from one dryer and determine corrective steps to previous problems encountered. We then could determine requirements for a new mit for the other dryer. It nov appeal's it will cost between $35*000. and &5,000 to put the old unit in operation. Wheelabrator quotes a new unit of similar capacity at $33*000 pins all duct work* foundations* insulation and Installation. Die cost of 1'eviiring the old unit and putting it back in operation is higher than ve anticipated. Possibly, ve should be considering a nev unit to handle all. the exhaust or setae other type of collector. Ve are not sufficiently familiar vith available equipment, vh&t is definitely needed to revise our old unit and get it in operation or other possible solutions and would like your help and advice. I am enclosing copies of the quotations an our old unit, copies of proposed new unit and recent correspondence. Ve would appreciate your advice and help. JSG/ssc J. Km CM lucre
