ASBESTOS SCREENING PROGRAM STATUS OF FINDINGS
As you are aware, this program started in October of
last year. It has dealt first with those who, as a result of past 30D assignments and age, may have been more susceptible to asbestos exposure. A concerted effort was made to review these people. Additionally, as others nave been scneduled for tneir periodic physi cals, they too have been reviewed for lung abnormalities. Recently, pensioners have been invited into the surveillance program.
During these past months, a considerable background of understanding has evolved and it would seem timely to review tne status after one year. Statistics on the above program have also been requested corporately to gain a measure of the scope of find
ings. The data needed is as described in Attachment I separated by active employee and pensioner. Some of tne numbers, sucn as total numoer of active employees surveyed, may not be absolutely available without considerable file review. In sucn an instance a reasonably accurate estimate will suffice. On the ot.ner hand, tne r.um.cer of abnormalities are generally accurately known, and it is important that these numbers be valid. Discretion snould be exercised so as to not create an unnecessary burden on tne organization.
