V/e are interested in the possibility of developing lead containing enamels for tank: linings, for services in food applications and in particular for the storage and fermentation of beer. While we have not yet produced any specific formulations, our Ceramic Research Department feels that they will be able to develop coatings containing lead which will not- show any signifiecant leaching in the intended use. he are anxious to know, in advance of additional work in this connec tion, whether or not lead containing enamels would be acceptable to authorities like the PDA even if we were able to demonstrate by means of tests that the leaching to be anticipated was nil. r/e would appreciate 'whatever assistance you could provide in ob taining an opinion of these authorities in this connection. As we discussed, you could probably accomplish this without divulging our company's identity at this time.
