Stollenwerk Subject Results of Air Sampling Conducted in the Milwaukee Plant This report covers the results and evaluation of air samples collected at brake band assembly and hard facing operations during late June 1974 I. Pipe Layer Brake Band Assembly Four samples were taken for determination of airborne asbestos These samples covered one hour of operation at an above normal The results are tabulated below fiber count work pace Sample # A Date 6-14-74 Air Vol 29.25 liters Fibers Found 24,000 Asbestos Fibers cc air 0.82 B 6-14-74 29.25 liters . 24,300 C 6-14-74 29.25 Ilters 22,800 0.83 0.78 D 6-14-74 29.25 liters 21.600 0.74 Note 1 - total fiber count represents those greater than 5 micrometers ia lengths as specified in OSHA 1910.93a Note 2 - The present OSHA limit is Effective July 1 1976 this limit centimeter of air 5 fibers per cubic will be reduced to centimeter of air 2 fibers per cubic . . Results of this recent air monitoring indicate that there is no excessive asbestos fiber exposure at present With any increased production rate and the absence of exhaust ventilation control this operation should be critically reviewed in light of the reduced exposure limit effective in July 1976. The results reported in this study are about 50 percent of the 1976 allowable limit PLAINTIFF'S tabbles EXHIBIT 01-896-80505.2 01-896-80505.2 01-896-80505.2 CAT forotpe 1030770 013 M. Nordling August 29 1974 Since there is no local and the no effect level following action should exhaust ventilation in the brake of asbestos fibers in air is not be taken band assembly area established the 1. Newly opened boxes of brake bands should be vacuumed as parts are removed . 2 Any dust generated at drilling and countersinking should be vacuumed up and not left to be redispersed .3 Bench tops in the work area should be kept clean by periodic vacuuming 4 Any waste scrap or other debris should be sealed in plastic bags for proper disposal as per OSHA 1910.93A 5 Plant Medical Department review of OSHA regulations 1910.93a on employee examinations and records 6 A recheck of asbestos fiber concentration should be made in six months I believe a small vacuum cleaner could be used effectively in the areas mentioned in Items 1 2 and 3 REDACTED 103077110307 1 013 M.
