Later I and others objected to the use of the word ''cancer" in signs that would be posted in work areas. Accordingly, the signs that are now used have diminished impact and, I am told, are being treated facetiously when work control areas are set up for asbestos jobs. Perhaps a sign such as the following would have more impact: NO ADMISTANCE BIOLOGICAL DUST HAZARD ASBESTOS ONLY AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL MAY RESPIRATOR MUST BE WORN WHILE WORKING ENTER IN THIS AREA The symbol for biological hazard that appears in the Federal Register (see page 23681, Thursday, June 27, 1974) is an orange-red fluorescent monster and certainly is sight-arresting. This could be added to the sign if necessary. If you agree that this or some similar sign should replace the one presently in use, the asbestos procedure will need suitable revision. CS: lg C, W.
