MW (SOM) INTER-OFFICE MEMO TENNECO CHEMICALS, INC to c. G. Maye s At Burlington from f.w. Kanzler At Burlington subject Analysis of Plastisol Tower Vapor Phase Date April 7, 1971 copy to H.B. Carr E.J. Hourihan G>. Leach The two samples (T-14-B-441 and T-ll-B-443) submitted by you on 4/5/71 were analyzed. Table I shows the results of the an alyses performed. % The results give rise to the following: 1. Vinyl Chloride Impurities While the T-14-B-441 sample shows a concentration of light end impurities characteristic to recovered monomer, the T-ll-B-443 analysis results are more typical for a batch charged with recovered monomer. It is surprising, however, that no heavy end impurities were detected in both samples. The acetylene level of 80 parts per million (ppm) is consid ered high. 2. Vinyl Acetate Again, the Tower 14 sample showed a considerably higher le vel of vinyl acetate, while the vinyl acetate level of the Tower 11 sample is below l/. In addition to the high vinyl acetate level, the Tower 14 sample showed an up to now un identified impurity (Unknown No. 1). Prom the above. It can be concluded that a considerable amount of recovered monomer must have been present in the T-14-B-441 sample. Attachment. FWK/jt F.W.
