Bendix Corporation -- History
Incorporated in 1929, the company immediately acquired capital stock of Eclipse Machine Co. (later Bendix-Eclipse of Canada, Ltd.) The first detailed history of acquisitions is in Moody1s 1957, when the firm was called Bendix Aviation Corp. (changed to Bendix Corp. in i9 6 0 , according to later issues of Moody's Industrial Manual) History includes acquisition of Marshall Asbestos Corp. in 1919 (never heard of it).
Separately in Moody* s is the history of General Motors, a firm that now makes brake linings. It was not possible for me to dis cern when GM began making brakes, but the history includes mention of a 1929 purchase of a 2 % interest in Bendix Aviation; these stock holdings were apparently reduced bv l/5th in 19 3 9 -19^ with the rest sold off in 19^ 8 .
Sometime after 1977 Bendix Corp. was purchased by Allied Chemical (exact arrangement not indicated in Moody's write-ups of Allied (now Allied Corp.) of recent years.)
