Williams, Merrell-Dow, Cincinnati ASBESTOS After much waiting here is the initial look at the asbestos general industry and construction industry standards. They are both final with staggered effective dates! The total package typed one side and double spaced is about 1,000 pages yes 1,000! In Federal Register format it will probably reduce to about 200 plus. It is expected that Federal Register publication will be on Friday June 20th. I will get copies out as soon as possible after I receive it. OSRA felt there had been enough discussion on asbestos to publish the construction standard as final. Several of the appendices are identical for the two standards, e.g. medical austionaires etc. I'm sorry I couldn't get copies of all that at this time because of the length. I think there are certain sections in these standards that may require some re-evaluation of programs especially the use of negative pressure enclosures as well as decontamination areas during demolition/construction jobs. Perhaps the frequency of medical exams may also need reviews. As you can also see, neither standard appears to allow for use of the 3M disposable dust masks, and there is a requirement for semi-annual fit testing. After you have reviewed the total standards, please let me know if you feel there are some areas where you don't think they're feasible to follow. f\ ' , , tr\ ILs y - Richard D.
