Facilities Servioea Building 8 July 1983 Subjects Insulation Asbestos Content, Basement Ductwork - Building 5 As you requested, an analysis to determine asbestos oontent was performed on a sample of ductwork insulation from the basement office of Building 5 of the Engineering and Be search Center* The analysis, which was performed using polargraphic methods by Environmental Research Group of Ann Arbor, Michigan, indicates that the insulation is 35Jt chrysotile asbestos. Therefore, we reoommend that* 1. If the insulation is not completely friable, it be removed and replaced when a convenient opportunity presents itself. 2. The deteriorating portions of the insulation be vaouumed with an approved vacuum, and the remaining insulation sealed with an encapsulating compound. 3- All asbestos insulation work ba done by employees who reoeive annual medical monitoring and according to Company asbestos removal standards utilising proper ventilation, clothing, respiratory protection, and disposal techniques in accordance with OSHA 29 CFH 1910.1001.
