Attached copy of the Subject forecast shows it to oe,,'89T of budget dollars (86% of budget tons). Among the major factors contributing to this less than desirable performance has been a slowdown in sales to the drilling mud industry, the automotive and construction industry, the slowdown in the European and Japanese economies and an environmental problem resulting in the loss of a major customer in Japan.
Sales in the drilling mud industry have been disappointing because; of competition from J-M's Flosai and hesitancy of mud companies to use asbesl until environmental uncertainty has been clarified. A major ceiling tile manufacturer in Japan has stopped using HPP in order to avoid the negative reaction of customers toward an asbestos-containing product.
