Part A of each report is an assessment of public exposure and emissions of the chemical and Part B is an assessment of the health effects. Comments on the chloroform report are due on January 15, and comments on the perchloroethylene report are due on February 2. The Committee has previously discussed the preparation of comments on the perchloroethylene report. Bill Hayes of Dow has agreed to be the principal reviewer of the perc report, but we would appreciate receiving comments from all members of the Committee. Initial comments on the perc report are due to HSIA by January 15. We will then combine and edit these individual reviews into a single HSIA comment, which will be distributed for review on or about January 25. This will provide a week for final Committee review of the HSIA draft comment. The situation with chloroform is more complicated. Comments on the preliminary draft are due in less than two weeks, and the HSIA Board of Directors meeting is next week. It will be very difficult for the staff to draft a comment and distribute it for review in less than two weeks. Is it imperative that HSIA comment on this document? If so, we will need your initial review of the chloroform report by January 9, in order to finalize a comment by January 15. We intend to discuss with CARB the possibility of an extension of the comment period, but they have been reluctant to allow this in the past. Thomas A.
