' The effort was inspired by chemical ; dumps, belching smokestacks and litter- strewn highways. ' Since then, through the years when an Indian's tear and Woodsy Owl urged better stewardship of our environment, environ mental concerns have come to the forefront Many households and businesses recycle to conserve resources and landfill space. Some people have changed their lifestyles to use less energy, less packaging, and fewer petroleum-based products. ' And many industries, too -- once tire bad guys of the environmental game -- have found it to be gcxxi business to play by the earth's rules. . Crown Cork & Seal is one local industry that has taken pollution reduction efforts to a new level. Plant leaders have significantly reduced pollution output, and have pledged to their neighbors to make even longer strides. '' Being good to the earth is, simply, being good to your neighbor. What friends down the street don't want to look at is probably litter. What relatives downstream don't want to drink is probably bad for the water. What people downwind don't want to breathe is probably pollution.
