Sorey Subject Air Monitoring HB-2 Address brT September 20, 1983 On July 20, 1983 Travis Rucker and I performed air monitoring in the vicinity of the lapping operation in the HB-2 maintenance shop. Two samples were taken, one next to the exhaust fan in 'the wall within 5 feet' of the lapping table and one within 5 feet of the table at which the employees eat their lunch.. The concentration of. dust near the lapping table was .0.2 milligrams per cubic ` ' meter (mg/M3) . The sample near idle eating table contained less than 0.2 mg/M3 of total dust. The OSHA permissible exposure limit. for nuisance dust is 15 mg/M3. (The American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists' TLV is 10 mg/M3 as an 8-hour time weighted average.) . % The abrasive material used in this operation is aluminum oxide suspended in oil (3-M John Crane Lapping. Vehicle). Due to the nature of this operation- it is very unlikely that the abrasive dust could become airborne.
