The three estimates for installation of the bottle polymer izer with fume removal hood capability have been reviewed. Based on our scheduled needs for this unit and the safety and operating procedures that will be involved, we recommend purchase of a hood per your estimates 1 and 2. This matter was reviewed on 1/14/71 with M.W. Williams and he concurs with the recommendations.
Our justification for this choice are:
1. The tests to be performed will include bottle scale polymerizerations with reaction times in the 20-24 hour range. Estimates 1 and 2 describe a hood facility that will provide the safest around-the-clock operation. Safety and operating procedures for performing this type test will be coordinated with plant management and yourself
2. Estimates 1 and 2 describe hoods that operate on the air saving principle. As we discussed, a hood of this type will save ca. 50/ on air conditioning needs.
3. The hoods described by your estimates 1 and 2 will mini mize, and when compared with estimate 3, will eliminate dirt, dust and resin fines from being swept into the lab oratory, This is an important consideration when the nature of the laboratory equipment and testing is considered which includes microscopy, infrared and sensitive wet chem ical tests.
It is requested that you expedite the ordering of this hood and the Installation of the unit as quickly as possible. There are several tests previously described in Capital Expenditure Re quests that will be of immediate benefit to the plant. Of particular importance will be the testing and improved control of DHW-80 formulation dispersion resins.
