BOpeman ' Subject: Mix Room Cleaning Reference: Report of Contact; same subject dated Miy 27, 1981 With regard to the referenced report, the folloving is In order: During the phone conversation It was Indicated to me that the mix room had not been In use for some time and during its shutdown had been cleaned once. It vas further indicated to me that asbestos contamination existed in the duct systems as measured by Industrial hygiene and toxicology. It vas discussed that a two stage cleanup was a reasonable approach Irrespective of a contractor or Fbrd employes doing the work, toe first stage would be to remove the ducts currently contaminated with asbestos. Wet methods would be used and other precautions indicated by Industrial Itygiene and toxicology would be followed. After duct removal, areas that might have been recontaminated vith asbestos would be addressed by Industrial Ifygiene and toxicology and, if Indicated, properly cleaned aB the second state of cleaning. * toe discussions on Shy 27, 1981 was related to a reasonable approach to removal of asbestos from the area by removing the most heavily contaminated materials (ducts) first.
