MacLeod The following issues were discussed at the subject meeting vhich vas held in conference room 215-WHQ; Lead The parties vere unable to discuss the Company's request for variance * from the Lead Standard since Mirer vas not at the meeting. Paul Toth *-- * will pursue and hopefully resolve this matter with Mirer the week, of September 1, 1980. TDI The parties agreed to meet at Utica on September 11, 1980 to participate in the two day NIOSH inspection of that facility. The meeting is ex pected to consist primarily of a "walk through" inspection and examjnv tioa-Qf various employment and^ 4/ Ashes The Union representatives requested an informal status report on the t/uu. Company*8 use of asbestos Including where asbeBtos vas used, the status of medical surveillance programs for employes exposed to asbestos and a list of suitable substitutes. Kovacich was reminded that all of this Information had been provided to him at the April 25, 1980 meeting The thrust of the'Union's inquiry focused on the medical surveillance program for employes exposed to certain levels of asbestos. The Company' assured the union that there vas a record of such exposed em ployes and that these employee have been receiving annual medical * examinations on an on-going basis. (Perhaps a reminder to the field of of this medical obligation by the Bnploye Health Services Department would be appropriate.) MacLeod stated that it vas his understanding that GM would no longer use asbestos in their brake shoes in 1985 and thereafter. Company representatives vere not avar,e of MacLeod's 'diUlCc/l allegation and Indicated that they, would check it out with GM and determine vhat, if any, plans Ford may have in this regard. Selina Inspection Kovacich described vhat he perceived to be hazards at Saline vhich he identified during his inspection tour on Wednesday, August 27, 1980. 8008 0128 SCF-FORD-2121 PRODUCED BY FORD -2- Saline Inspection (continued) Hie alleged hazards Include (l) tvo waste treatment plt6 In the rear of the plant that are not guarded and/or covered; (2) an overflowing 55 gallon drum of unmarked, unknown material along the wall of the new equipment area; (3) unmarked pipes carrying MDX and/or hydraulic or other fluids; (4) an Inadequate and/or improper lockout procedure on the new vacuum form press. Kovacich indicated that Company safety representatives who accompanied him on the inspection were aware of these conditions. Kovacich al6o complained about a number of MDI leaks from the pipes coming from the tanks to the presses but acknowledged that the Company had already made arrangements to have the vendor make the appropriate repairs. Miscellaneous The Company provided the following information to the Union: . Copies of Industrial Hygiene Bulletin Ho. 65, dated August 13, 1980 dealing with access to employe medical exposure records. . A "by-location list of facilities which use isocyanates. . . A supplement to the Hazardous Material Catalog.
