SCOPE This section of the Specification includes requirements for the following, as indicated on the drawings, as hereinafter specified (under the Article numbers indicated), or as required to properly complete the Work: 5-02, General Requirements for Asbestos-Cement Siding and Roofs 5-03. Detailed Requirements for Asbe.itos-Cement Siding and Roofs 5-04. Samples Required 5-02. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ASBESTOS-CEMENT SIDING AND ROOFING A. Structural Requirements: a. Wind Loads: Height Zone in Feet Inward and Outward Wind Pressure in Lbs. Fasteners provided shall be designed td withstand these loadings without exceeding the maximum allowable unit stresses for such fasteners. B. Thermal Properties: a. Overall coefficient of thermal.transmission U for insuleted roofing shall not exceed 0.280 Btu/hr/sf/F in still air. b. Submit test data from recognized tee ting laboratory to substantiate Contractor's claims as to thermal pioperties of his constructions; in lieu of this, Contractor shall arrange, without cost tc Purchaser, to conduct such tests as may be directed by Consulting Engineers to verify such claims. C. Weathertightness: All completed siding shall be WATERTIGHT AND AIRTIGHT to provide a completely weathertight and/or dust-tight installation. D. Girt Alignment: Prior to erection of siding, check accuracy of alignment of wall girts to see that they are within tolerances allowable for installation of siding they are to support. Lap Lines: Line up all around for sidirg. Provide uniform straight lines for roofs. F. Field Painting for Concealed Surfaces: This work will be performed by Sline Industrial, Painters, Inc., and will include cleaning and painting, for all surfaces of structural steel and miscellaneous steel (other than galvanized surfaces) which yill be in contact with, or madq:inaccessible by, siding, roofs, flashings, etc,. Do not install these materials in ar.y area until the required-painting hqs been completed, irspected and approver. G- Cleaning of Siding and Roofs: a. Clean all exposed faces of siding anc roofs of labels, dirt, streaks, caulking or sealing materials, undue discolorations, etc., and provide at least a-dry wipedown at time of erection. b. All exposed faces of siding and roofs, just prior to acceptance of the WORK, shall be. completely satisfactory in appearance to Consulting Engineers. Any defects in appearance, due to Contractor, shall be remedied at Contractor's expense, as required. 5-03. DETAILED-REQUIREMENTS FOR ASBESTOS-CEMENT SIDING AND ROOFS Detailed' requirements for siding, roofs and all components sad accessories shall be as specified in the following tables: A. Outside comer rolls, inside corner rolls. b. Flashing c. Closures , d. Caulking and sealing. e. Fasteners B. Requirements for these accessaries shall be as specified in this Table, except that requirements for fastener: are specified in Table 5-3. 2. Corner Rolls A. Material: Asbestos-cement,- ASTM C221 . B. Corner Rolls: 6 to 8 inch les, 90, 2 to 3 inch radius comer, with overlapping bell ends. 4 to 12 feet long. Weight approximately 2% to 3% lb. per lineal foot. 3. Flashing A. Lap 4" minimum at right angles to corrugations and seal with closures as hereinafter specified. A. Premolded closed cell neoprene, as approved, to match corrugations applied with "Dow Series 400" adhesive. B. Location: Top and bottom, or ends, of sheets. A. Material: a. Rope putty for side and end laps. b. Gray asbestos putty all other caulking. c. All caulking as approved. B. Location: Provide continuous caulking and sea Ling for all horizontal, vertical and other joints in all siding, in all roofs, and in all applicable accessories as required to insure permanently sealed joints. C. Indicate location and type of ALL caulking on zhop drawings. TABLE 5-3 REQUIREMENTS FOR SIDING AND ROOF FASTENERS Item Req lirements 1. Attachment to Structural Members A. V' lead head bolt. If bolt is electroplated, ;>olt shall be dipped in paint approved b/ Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company, prior to erection. If bolt is hot dip galvanised and lead head applied after galvanizing, no paint dip will be required. Provide 1/8" thick steel clips, hot dip galvanized as follows: a. J-clips: Attachment to channels. b. Z-clips or hook clips: Attachment to angle;. B. Use of welded type fasteners not permitted. 2. Premolded Closures Bolts: Use same bolts specified in Item 1. 3. Stainless Steel Flashing Self-tapping screws, Type B, No. 12, minimum size and as follows: A. Material; Type 316 stainless steel. B. Heads and Washers: Recessed hexagon head, witl separate combined stainless steel washer and neoprene washer. Neoprene washer white or gray color. 4.
