;ict: MEETING DECEMBER. 7, 1973 WITH PERSONNEL AT FDA/ WASHINGTON, D.C., I,,iLC-ASBESTOS REGULATIONS
On December 7, 1973, Dr. George Wright, R..P. Carter,~'`and-- _
R. S. Lamar met with the .following:
f
Dr. Ruth Curstine Dr. Albert C. Colbey Dr. Virgil Wodicka
Our impression of this group and their reaction to our presenta tion is quite different from the previous day's meeting with the EDF and the Center for Science in the Public Interest.
We appear to be making progress with the FDA. They may com promise and apply controls just to talc as a direct food additive. They appear cautious and want to receive.as much input as possible before reaching, any conclusions. The-reaction to the EDF and the CFS appears to be similar to ours.
The three above-mentioned people listened intentively to Dr, Wright's medical, presentation and appeared to be wellinformed on this phase.
We went into a detailed discussion on the use of talc in the pulp and paper industry. The results of our migration tests were also described in detail.
They want" our final reports on migration studies and our proposed modification of their optical petrographic method.
They left open the door* for future meetings. These are badly needed and contrary to our feelings about EDE' and CFS we should continue to call on FDA people regularly. This relationship should be cultivated. '
