Juae 3, 1939 Mr* John Thesgson Mechanical Chief of Denver Plants Dear Sir! May. The following work vas done at Arapahoe Plant during the month of Bo. k Obit waa still down for overhaul. The holler was lit off on May b. Superheater safety valve leaked. The boiler was brought down and tAi repaired. The turbine main steal stop would not close* The valve was taken apart and a coating of hard blue scale was found on the stem. This was removed and valve assembled* The boiler vas again started up on May 11. The trips were checked on the turbine and then put back on the line. Ho. 1 turbine vas shut down May 12 to check, reason for vibration. The gib key was refitted and installed. This did not help the vibration. We also found on the front of the low pressure case a section of cement forms had not been removed, these were taken out* Ho. 3 turbine waa shut down May 13 to check Ho. 2 admission valve. The valve was removed and the stem was covered with a hard blue scale. This vas removed and valve Valves worked O.K. Safety valves were set on Ho. 3 Boiler cm May 22. Superheater safety valve has to be worked an* Tbs unit was turned over to us on May 25* Drums were opened, checked and washed. All hand pole plugs re moved. On the fire side the boiler was fairly clean, very little ash in the superheater section, dust collectors were blown off Is needed. Top of the primary air heater section vas blown off. The high and lav pressure case has been removed on Ho. 3 turbine, the rotor is reedy to be lefted out. The deposit on the rotor blades and dlaphmaes does not seam to be hard, should dean easily. A sample of the deposit has bean given to the chemist. Work is progressing as fast as possible on this machine. The 3011.D* fan hearings were opened. The outboard bearing was wiped, it has been scraped, and all shims removed. Our clearance on this bearing ia .008 to .003 more that it should be, inboard bearing vas not bad. Mater was blown out mad coupling aliglmmt checked. Fan vas ran and bearing sat* The steam to feedwater beaten controlled start up line has been installed. This lime has yet to be insulated. 'Phis will be done after the line has bean checked out. A stainless steel fitting has been welded in Ho. 3 E.P. heater drain flash tank. The stainless steel linen in the down stream side of the valve vas repaired. WAD00257 V Cm motorized atm steam stop valve on Mo. 3 stuck closed, when the unit vaa aka* ten. The valve baa teen stripped down* seal and bannett removed. Ike machine shop is making a large nut to screw an the stem so that ve can mate a puller for this valve. Three A condensate pia^s vas pulled} libellers and case checked. Puag> well cleaned and painted. Puaqp assembled and also painted with Dice coat. Prop vas reinstalled and motor aligned. This is ready for service. Tbs B&tf coal mills were lnspeced on Ho. 1 Unit. One vas added to each mill. The top ball ring is wearing on the outer edge. The zing does acre resemble any of the drawings ve have on this mill. Plows and near plates axe holding up Veil. Spring pressure vas adjusted. These mills are back in service. A, 3 2 c mills on No. 3 Unit vas nh-ofopft. rwy hall vas found to be wearing out of round on A mill} this ball was removed and replaced vith a ball frcsa 3 mill. Two new balls were put in B mill. So bells were added to C mill. Upper rings vexe all found to be worn Hfc Sou 1. Plows and wear plates were O.K. Spring tension reset. Mills axe back in service. Oil and seal were changed on No. 4 J&K cells. Seal was also changed on So. 4 A-B-C cells. A new master cylinder and brake cylinder vexe installed on the broke 4A cell. A brake vas installed an 2D cell. 3B motor and gear box were aligned. Part of the air conditioning units were scraped and painted vlth Bltumastic No. 50} they axe as follows: -S1-63-S7-S9* A nev pull in stalled on 39 fan motor. Bearings vere replaced on 37 exhaust fan. The water piping to the nev coaling coils an the A.C. units were installed. No. 4 control air compressor gas engine valves vexe replaced vlth nev rotating exhaust valves. Exhaust valve seats vere also renewed. A sample of U.S. chemical Z4 ring and valve free vas put in the top oiler. This engine has ran about 15 hours, spark plugs are still clean. We have been havingtrouble vlth this engine building up a lead deposit on the valves and in the compression chamber. Nev Xumgr level gauges vere installed on the 4th and 7th stage heaters on li 1 Unit} the sight glasses vere removed. So. 4 A L.P. drip puqi motor had to be sent to Baker Electric to be rewound. The motor picked up moisture from a blow off line on No. 3 Unit. Motor is back and in service. Chloren gxaaa mod weed killer vas sprayed on the fence line around the plant, around the cooling towers and fixe plugs. Weeds vere disked In all of the open areas of the grounds. WAD00258 X3 So* k gas recirculating fan inboard tearing burned up. The tearing pad crusted in, probably from fan getting oat of balance from ash. We art nov --vend furs Sturterent Fan Company about nev bearings. Bo. 4 dust collector and air heater hoppers plugged 19 vlth vet ash. St took a crew of % to 6 nan, three daya to get these open. Ha--11 plates hare teen velded on the dust collector happen on 1# 2 and 3 units and on *11 the hoppers on So. V. The bottom five foot section of the northeast by of the coal car shake out A frame vas replaced. This vas dwmaged vhen the 20 cat brahes got vet and It rolled off the coal pile. Small trouble orders hove been taken care of as they came In. Respectfully submitted, HHRxfB Henry H. Rogers WAD00259
