Dan Marino Arsen Sentlgfclen August 14, 1974 1 Cn August 7. 1974, the E.P. 5672 recipe was scheduled on Super G (Chicago). At Mr. T. Bernardl's reguest, E.P. 5672 was replaced by XS 15998 which Is asbestos and paper free end Is considered to be an Improved version of E.P. 5465A. Four batches were produced In order to have a long end fair trial. Considering the Technical Department's observations concerning slight machine modifications In order to accommodate the existing Installations to the non asbestos material, Chicago Plant's management had reduced the I.D. of the slurry supply pipe from 4" to 1-1/2". The tost started at 12:00 noon, and after two cycles the boards (four cavities tool #376) were even In thickness, the form end dewatering time being slightly lower than the regular E.P. 5452A. During the test, which could be considered the best, stlckings occurred to the screen, sometimes from all four boards and rarely from three or less. In fact, the sticking to the screen problem Is the only one to be concerned about. The sticking to the screen could be caused by eny factors. Tho fnctors listed below are some of then: 1. The tool's screen being previously "plagued." 2. The pieces being too wet or too dry. 3. Due to the raw materials used In the recipe. ` *n * | Taking In consideration only IJo. 3, XS 15938 has Incorporated four raw materials which could stick to the screen themselves or In combination: 1. RH 1310 2. RK 74C 3. RM X3579 4. RM X3584 i } -2- Consldering the above raw materials, we had produced two other batches of XS 15993 having replaced X 3579 with X 3573. The run was an Improvement from the previous one but not 100 percent acceptable from the production standpoint. Because we could not have made- any other change. It was suggested to '`run out" the slurry, to select the acceptable boards to be shipped to U'.S.S.-Lorain, being followed through all phases, and receive a technical report concerning the board's performance. Because XS 1599B was perfected primarily for Cleveland Plant, we Intend to modify XS 15933 for Chicago ns follows: 1. 74C being replaced by 109. 2. X3573 being replaced by X3573. Being encouraged by XS 15993 and by the above recipe modifications, Mr. T. Bernard! wants the following to be tried next week (August 14, 15, and 16, 1974): Super C, K-4, and jS7 (.P. 5669A).
