He returned to work May 2 3 and 4 termination as a warehouse worker where he was allegedly exposed to less of the irritating fiber glass components His continued difficulty in breathing even at this job resulted in his voluntary termination He was initially employed October 1962 in ; the molding department as an operator helper He was transferred in October 1963 to the maintenance department as a drill operator This transfer was requested because of his breathing difficulties Mr. Lander stated that six months ago the the maintenance shop was moved from the present site which is now the lunch room at the south end of the building to the extreme north end of the plant I visited the other drill operator who took over the claimant's job He ee stated dust and fumes were bad in the area many times and occasionally a yellow IS colored dust was noted He said that he had a slight respiratory irritation when whe dust was bad but not so much during the warmer weather as at the present time an adjacent door was opened At the time of this investigation I did not note any haziness in the plant atmosphere Temperature and lighting appeared adequate Housekeeping was fair to poor as extensive accumulation of the green colored fiber glass dust was noted on piping and other superstructure close to the ceiling at an adjacent area This was readily visible from the maintenance department A strong odor of ammonia gas used to adjust the pH was noted upon ascending the ladder at the resin department An odor of phenoli formaldehyde resin was noted throughout the plant by this investigator although most likely because of adjust- , ment was not detectable by the manager The latest regional inspection August 30 1965 for mineral wool dust at the MLV immediate production line area was well.within well.within This was after ventilation improvements were made following high readings High readings for for- maldehyde concentration at the presses was noted in an inspection 1963.
