The Electricity Subsector Coordinating Council (ESCC) -- APPA is an active participant on the ESCC and would like touch base with you about your vision for the ESCC going forward. Rural and Municipal Utility Advanced Cybersecurity Grant and Technical Assistance Program (RMUC Program) -- APPA has received two grants from DOE, one of which supports the association's Cyber Pathways Program, to provide cybersecurity assessments and training for some of the most at risk and resource constrained public power entities, including those owning or supporting defense critical electric infrastructure. The second grant supports APPA's Response Beacon program, which focuses on creating and improving public power utilities' cybersecurity incident response plans, as well as updating existing cybersecurity framework resources. Emergency Prep Funding/Safe Haven Exercise as part of funding under DOE's State, Local, Territories, and Tribal Program, APPA is planning to hold a cybersecurity mutual aid exercise, Safe Haven that will focus on mutual aid response, the voluntary partnership between electric utilities across the country committed to helping restore power whenever and wherever assistance is needed, when it is safe to do so. The event will feature a cybersecurity incident affecting information technology and operating technology systems, which leads to physical impacts and damage to critical electric infrastructure. Dept of Energy, 4:25-cv-5027 SC_EVERSPLIT0014572 Description: The program supports the development of additional resources for communities as they plan and execute projects which were made eligible for clean energy tax credits through Elective Pay or the 179d energy efficient commercial building property tax deduction by the Inflation Reduction Act. National Laboratories: Wildfire and Extreme Heat Risk Mitigation for Public Power Utilities Issued by: Argonne National Laboratory Subcontract Amount of Grant: $425,000 (addendum to increase amount to (b) (4) currently being negotiated) Grant term: 12/13/2024 to 09/30/2025 (addendum will extend project to -.09/30/2026) Description: This project aims to link Argonne's wildfire and extreme heat datasets with APPA's Risk Management Toolkit (RMT) to enhance risk management for public power utilities. Through virtual webinars and workshops, Argonne and APPA will engage with five utilities to deploy relevant datasets, integrate these datasets with the RMT, and provide direct technical assistance to improve wildfire and heat risk mitigation plans. Energy Storage for Rural Resilience Issued by: Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Subcontract Amount of Grant: $170,000 Grant term: 06/12/2024 to 11/30/2025 Description: Provide technical assistance to public power utilities who are developing energy storage projects to ensure resilience in rural parts of their service territory through collaborative meetings with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory staff. The meeting will discuss policy matters, as described above, but not specific legislation. It will also discuss APPA's DOE grants.
