FAST LANSING. MICHIGAN SUMMARY OK PROJECT: 48823 PERIOD FOR THIS NRP: 7/70 TO 6/71 FY71. FUNDS 34,550 The proposed research plan involves laboratory investigations aimed at determining the amount of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) and terphenyl compounds present in Coho salmon from Lake Michigan and the chemical identity of each major component. The main approach will entail organic solvent ex traction . of salmon samples, column chromatographic separation of chlorinated components into a DDT-complex fraction and a PCB fraction and a gas chromatcgra phic-tna ss spectrometric characterization of the individual components. The data will provide an accurate determination of PCS residue levels and their composition in Coho salmon, thus permitting a rational interpretation of the significance of these compounds with respect to thefish. : ............ .
