TECHNICAL, & RESEARCH COMMITTEE REPORT MOLDED SECTION JANUARY 10, 1961 In Mr. Hoopes absence I will report for his section. A summary of the November 16, I960 Molded Section Meeting would include the following all of which is given in detailed minutes forming a part of this report. Action taken since the meeting is noted. ASTM Standard Specification C-319-55 and 320-55 were revised to conform to the recently revised Federal Spec HH-I-554 for 85% Magnesia. Revis ions were approved by the manufacturers and the Secretary will submit them to ASTM. Spec MIL-001509B Ships 15 Dec 1959- Insulation Felt, Thermal, Asbestos was discussed and comments subsequently sent in will be discussed at the next Section Meeting. Spec MIL-I-2781C 15 Feb I960' -- Changes previously discussed were reviewed and listed and the Secretary will submit them to the Navy. Spec HH-I-55Ia Insulating Block St Fipe Covering, Thermal, Cellular Glass - The manufacturers reported this specification as being revised to include a second type, foamed silica, and other changes in test of the specification. The spec will be reviewed at the next T & R Meeting for revisions toward conforming to the standard text used in other Federal Specs. Spec MIL-P-2886 9/4/51 Plastic, Magnesia - This spec for Magnesia Cement is in need of revision. Manufacturers, because of only occasional inquiries, agreed it should be cancelled when revised Federal Spec KH-I-00500 Type I Magnesia Cement is issued, since this specification could be used for the occasional Government requirements. Spec HK-I-523 a May 23, 1952 - Insulation Block, Pipe Covering Sc Cement, Thermal, Calcium Silicate: Interum Amendment 1 October 14, I960 was checked and found to be in accordance with NIMA recommended changes. A few further required changes were noted and the Secretary wrote G.S.A. recommending same on December 2, I960. 2 Discussion of Section Committee Operations - Some members thought they should receive more information on the activities of other sections, such as Government, beyond which is covered in joint sessions, Mr, Barnhart advises that the respective Chairman of each Section, being a member of the Government T & R Section, also should advise his part icular Section of the Government T oc R Committee^ actions.
