to asbestos exposure. From your review of the medical and
scientific literature, how do those occurrences compare with those mesotheliomas that are associated with asbestos exposure?
A Well, it is a much, much lower incidence. Again, assuming that 20 percent of
mesotheliomas are not caused by asbestos, and that figure may be inflated because some of those 20 percent may have had an exposure that they were not very well aware of, but assuming that that 20 percent exists, those 20 percent of the cancers occur in 90 percent of the people or more.
80 percent of the cancers occur in a much smaller percentage of the people, maybe 10 percent of the people. It is very disproportionate.
Q You were asked some questions also by Mr. Williams about incidence of mesothelioma and studies.
If an individual has mesothelioma, an occupational exposure to asbestos, does risk from incidence matter in that case?
