Dear Mr. Altaanisi
This is a follcw-up letter to the one Mr. Calkins wrote you on April 26, 1972, concerning the conversion of vyur nol FK system. Since we have received no further word from"" yCai LUUiaiiyr' aiay be your plant is still using Thoralnol FR fluids. If such is the case, we want to review with you once again the desirability of discontinuing their use.
In May, 1972 the Federal government's Task Force on PCB's recosssendad against the use of PCB's as heat transfer fluids. Enclosed is a summary of their proposals. Also enclosed is a copy of a Wall Street Journal article highlighting re strictive action proposed by the FDA.
In April, 1972 our Mr. Papageorge sent a letter addressed to the "Plant Manager" of your plant. You may want to re view this latter (copy enclosed) for additional background on this PCB subject.
We want you to be aware that some Federal and State agencies are sampling plant affluents and marine life looking for, among other things, PCB chemistry. If PCB is found, the agencies tend to determine the PCB source.
In light of the above, we believe you should seriously con sider converting your Therminol FR system.
we would appreciate your reviewing this matter with your management and advising me of your plana to convert.
