Since that time respirator manufacturers have submitted their products to the Bureau of Mines where they have been tested for their effectiveness in the protection of the wearer against dust. The following are the filter-type respirators submitted by the manu facturers and approved by the United States Bureau of Mines (as of March 15, 1935) for protection against "pneumoconiosis-producing or nuisance dusts, as quartz, asbestos, iron ores, cement, limestone, gyp sum, coal, coke, charcoal, wood, cellulose, flour and aluminum. 1. M. S. A. Comfo, approval number BM-210'1, made by the Mine Safety Ap pliances Company. Braddock, Thomas and Meade Streets, Pittsburgh, Pa. 2. Willson Bag Respirator No. 300, approval number BM-2102, made by Willson Products, Inc., Reading, Pa. 3. Willson Bag Respirator No. 400, approval number BM-2103, also made by Willson Products, Inc. 4. Pulmosan M-15, Pouch Type, approval number BM-2104, made by the Pulmosan Safety Equipment Corporation, 176 Johnson Street, Brooklyn, N. Y. 6. In order to permit a complete review of the literature on effects of breathing dusts, He Bureau of Mines* has prepared an annotated bibliography of the most important references. The annotations are sufficiently detailed to givethe reader a comprehensive picture of the entire subject in addition topointing out the original references for more complete information onany one phase of the problem. Thisreview of the literature includes incidence of dust diseases in the various countries where statistics have been kept and in the mining, grinding, granite, foundry and cement industries in the United States. Muchattention is also given to silicosis including1symptoms, pathology, stages, diagnosis, roentgenological aspects and how fibrosis of the lungs isproduced. The bibliography contains 145 references. This publication is recommended to all those who are interested in theeffects of breathing dusts. A limited number of copies of this pub licationcan be obtained at this office. (*) U. S.
