H. Zimmerman, Chairman of the Gypsum Association Safety Committee, called the meeting to order at the Marriott Motor -- Hotel, Saddle Brook, New Jersey, at 8;30 a.m. Those in attendance -were; . M. The chairman requested that the secretary relate'the member company response for safety articles to be used in the Bulle tin. Following a brief discussion by the conzaittee, it was their recommendation that each member company stimulate employee partici pation by UTging the plant employees to write and submit safety articles to the Association. B. The committee reviewed the Bulletin format and it was the consensus that it was satisfactory in its present form. One member suggested that a possible change be considered when the next Bulletin mast head is printed. The secretary indicated that present Bulletin stock supply would be depleted at the end of the fiscal year, and at that time, committee suggestions would be solicited. The coeelttee requested that the secretary construct a chart showing the industry frequency rating over the past four years, as related to the all Industry frequency rating reported by the National Safety Council, and print this chart in the Safety Bulletin. He informed the committee that the award cost the Association $20.00 to purchase and mail, and re quested that they might consider*, adopting an award that might have greater utility for the winner, such as an ash tray or pen set. Mr. Robertson will receive a certificate and inscribed ash tray for his contribution to safety. 3. ATR ASP STREAM POLLUTION The chairman cited a few pollution problems involving plants on a local level..- He stressed the importance of all committee members keeping abreast with local, state, and federal pollution programs. .One member noted a recent problem involving the asbestos n- -dustry nhexe-ua-aaamhgr xx -inng.j arrancma .had -been xeporied h y inhaTTitants of -the ne i ghborhood -surrounding nr. asbestos -plant. Tt -was further noted that clinical tests anc investigations had resulted ir. legal action against the manufacturer by jthe claimants. * . The chairman indicated-that air ar.d water pollution problems would have a dramatic effect.on all industries and that, the committee should take the initiative to meet any such problems head on if they should occur in the gypsum industry. Following a discussion of pollution problems in varicus in dustries, it was the consensus that the safety committee should have a siore active program in this area, outlining the problems that exist and what steps have been taken to solve them.
