A. CUSTOMER RELATIONS
Complaints:
There was one complaint in January. Decorative coverings reported a high black contamination level in two railcars (four compartments) that exceeded their spec of 12 (total contamination) .Re-analysis of retains in OKC Indicated that two compartments met the spec of 12 and two did not. DC1 supposedly counts only "burned" PVC particles as contamination and uses a different test method than OKC. It is believed that the tests done by DCI and OKC do not correlate.
Miscellaneous:
Silverline - Mo conclusive evidence has been found to substantiate the claim that tears in thinvalled pipe (experienced late last year) are due to contamination in the resin. Contaminants sent to R & D from Silverline probably originated in the compound or blender or transfer piping.
Crane - Contaminants taken from railcar samples (supplied by Crane) were found to contain significant amounts of silica. Steps are being taken to determine all possible sources.

The average bulk density was virtually unchanged versus the previous month. Control has been very consistent and predictable for the last four months. The % Moisture was virtually identical to the previous month. The average % through the 140 Mesh and % on the Pan increased slightly in February but were comparable to results in October and November. The change was due to testing being conducted to determine if Dow Methocel (Europe) which produces a more peaked particle size distribution can replace Culminal In our process and achieve the desired particle size distribution on the 80 Mesh, through the 140 Mesh and on the Pan. The testing was completed in February. We concluded the Dow Material peaked the particle size distribution considerably but did not reduce the % on the Pan as much as It did the % on the 80 Mesh. In addition, we have evidence to suggest that it caused foaming in the reactor which interfered with heat transfer during polymerization which resulted in "heat kicks'*. We are now back to Culminal exclusively. The RVCM results and variability improved slightly to previous month's results. The cause is believed to be due to operational problems with the new steam stripping revisions control systems. Work is continuing to identify the cause (s) and to fine tune the Instruments to achieve the results we were obtaining on the old manual system.
