STATISTICAL COMMUTE REPOET Xn the Chairman's absence J.K. Barnhart reported as follows: 1. Xn October 1968, the Statistical Committee recoasended that for statistical reporting, the Aaaodatioe member making the ultimate shljment (except vhere the national account is a member of HXMA) should report sales of private branded materials, rather than the manufacturer. The purpose of this reeoaendatioB is to provide a better geographic breakdown and sales value for these shipments. Understanding that the Board of Directors voted 5 to 1 in favor of this proposal, the Committee will put It into effect as soon as reguested by the Board. 2. fending the results of No. 1, and vith Mr. Barnhart's cooperation, the Committee will fellcw through on another recent recommendation: To publish periodically the rules for reporting shipments by members of the NXMA. They tw cover the exclusion of export sales, sales to original equipment manufacturers, structural insulations, and sales of private brand materials purchased frem another manufac turer. Xt is the last exclusion that ve propose to change, la eases of Intra-Association purchases. 3. Mr. Banhart has collected from all members lists of product trade names corresponding to the statistical reporting categories, as proposed by this Committee. This list will be ready for publica tion after correction of same errors and emissions vhleh have come to light. b. The Statistical Comttee Chairman has received, through Mr. Barnhart, the assignment to gather a list of manufacturers in certain areas of the Insulation Industry not presently included in the National Jaeulatian Manufacturers Association membership. An adjunct to that aaslgnneat is the collection of certain marketing and distribution information on foam insulationa. Kettering Duet Study 2. U.S. Public Health request for assistance 3. University of California proposals. On Deceaber 12, 1968, a Joist meeting was held by tbe Executive Committee of SIMA aad tbe Duet Systcas Coosittee. At this meeting a report yes made by Dr. Great on tbe Kettering Duct Study, tbe U.S. Public Health Study, aad tbe University of California Proposed Eavlronaental Study. At this meeting recorneadatlons were aade by tbe Health aad Safety Ceoslttee: THE KL'1T?.I3G STUDY could not proceed as scheduled due to tbe aeaber eospanies not furnishing Dr. Cbolak Job inforela tion aad clearances for Dr. Cbolak to take air sespies. Aaslgnaents were made to specific individuals to obtain this information. Meet of this information baa been obtained and forwarded to Dr. Cbolak. Tbe first report rteelved from tbe Kettering Laboratory was very encouraging. Tbs only fiber glass fibers found were from dust simples taken from two light fixtures below tbe pills in tbe file room. This room bad not been painted or dusted since 1963. There were no airborne fiber glass fibers obtained in the duct system or at tbs grill outlets. GAF 19640 Tilt 0.3. UNIVERSITY OP CALIFORNIA PROPOSAL -- 1ye majority eote of the Joint conittees, tbs California Environmental Proposal vss expanded to include a duet study. A subecoaittee vas proposed to discuss tbe cost, timing, and parameters of an expanded proposal vltb Dr. Cooper and Leroy Balxer. A asstlag vas bald in February at tbe Berkley eaapus of tbe University of California. In attendance were: Cliff Sbeekler - J-M Dr. KOasen - OCT R. Strickland CSS Jack Barnhart RINA. Sr. Cooper assured tbe cossittee that both studies (Environmental and Duet) could be conducted concurrently and completed la a 12-aonth period. Tbe cost of these studies vwld be $33,000 ($22,000 for tbe enelronaental and $11,000 for tbe duet portion). A written proposal baa bees presented to NIKA, which was for warded to tbe four class fiber neaber coopenies. This proposal has been approved and returned to Dr. Cooper. Job sites vere selected and each meaner company vas assigned tbe responsibility of getting specifications, operating data, and approvals for Dr. Cooper's staff to take air samples. Also, Dr. Cooper's staff vas to work vltb tbe local Asbestos Workers Onion for permission to vork with asbestos workers on tbe en- vlrooaestal portion of this study. Drg,. Konzea and Edvards of 0CF vere given tbe responsibility of coordinating tbe information and samples from member cempanlss for this study. Most coapanies have bean cooperative la supplying tbe lafarmatloa required by Dr. Cooper. Dr. Edvards is following up vltb tbosa coapanies that have sot furnished tbe infonsatioo needed. B.L.
