?)) INTRODOCnOH T was contacted, In October 1990, by Mr. David Moss, Regional Manager with The Travelers Southeast Region, to discuss Industrial Hygiene Air Sampling requested by Cenuine Parts Company for their Raylock Manufacturing facilities. Genuine Parts Management requested the air sampling survey be performed to determine employee exposure to .airborne asbestos fibers in brake re-manufacturing operations. I set up a survey date with Mr. Joe Huff, General Manager at the Raylock facility in Hancock, Maryland. I conducted the survey on October 30th. At that time 1 conducted personal air sampling of employees working in the brake re-manufacturlng area for determination of exposure to airborne asbestos fibers. I was accompanied during my survey by Mr. Carl Horst, Production Superintendent. The results and conclusions developed based on air sampling is documented in this report. oomxpsioss Personal air samples were taken for operators while performing their normal work duties. The operations included disc brake riveting, midas belt sorting, chopper, clutch disc, and burner operators. Eight Hour Time Weighted Average Exposures to asbestos fibers were calculated based upon the concentration of fibers Identified using Phase Contrast Microscopy. The Eight Hour Time Weighted Average Exposure to asbestos fibers for the burner operator exceeded the Action Level of 0.1 fibers per cubic centimeter of air. The Eight Hour Time Weighted Average Exposure to asbestos fibers for Che chopper operator exceeded 50Z of the Action Level. The following table contains a summary of the results. Operator . Operation 8 Hr. TWA Roger Helmick Burner Operator <_0.162 fibers/cc Roger Daly Clutch-Disc Driller ^0.043-fibers/cc Eugne Hart Chopper Operator ^0.056 fibers/cc Randy Wells Midas Belt Operator ^0.040 fibers/cc Roger McMullen Disc Brake Rivet Operator ^0.041 fibers/cc As a result of these asbestos sampling results, the previously submitted recommendation concerning, .the implementation of a formal Asbestos Exposure Control Program, In accordance with OSHA Standard 1910.1001, is being resubmitted.
