The rotation of the screw will move the sliding nut and latch lever where It will engage with the latch hook. (Shown In attached picture). With the latch lever and hook engaged, turn the handwheel clockwise to close and counterclockwise to open the valve. The valve will be in the fully open position when (turning the handwheel counterclockwise), the stop collar makes contact with the sliding nut. After the valve has been opened wide the handwheel should be turned at lease one quarter of a turn In the closing direction. This will prevent the locking of valve In the open position from expansion of the valve parts. Exercising Valve: The valve should be exercised by turning the handwheel in the closing direction through the distance equal to \ of the total lift of the valve (about 1 inch). When exercising the valve notice that the latch hook is fully engaged (unlatching this hook will trip the turbine). Also before the Gimpel valve can latch correctly, the trip solenoid nust be in its untripped position. When exercising the valve, the coupling should slide.
